World Aids Day 2012 Again a Thorburn Highlight

“If you are not infected you are affected” is a slogan used often in Thorburn to promote the fight against HIV Aids, especially around 1 December when World Aids day is on the agenda. Every year Thorburn plays its part in the fight against HIV Aids through special arrangements for the day.
The past 5 months, Thorburn, as in 2010, activated a HIV Aids wellness program that was presented by Tisetso Motomboti, a qualified HIV Aids counselor contracted to work amongst the Thorburn Staff in the Northern Region. He paid visits to staff on Thorburn contracts and went as far as Tshikondeni in Venda, lectured to security officers and gave valuable advice. He opened up communication with staff who have the need to talk to an independent person. The program was very valuable and positive feedback was received from staff.
As on every other 1 December since 2006, someone has benefited from the Thorburn World Aids Day initiative. We stayed committed to our staff and red ribbons and pamphlets were issued to staff – following on the wellness program that was presented to them. Communities that benefited from the Thorburn World Aids Day campaign was the Lulekani Home Care Center near Palabora and a group of residents near Roossenekal (Station community) near the EHVS Mapochs Mine in Mpumalanga Province.
