Thorburn Thanks Sekhukhune Community

07.03.2013

Saturday 2 March 2013 was symbolic of Thorburn Security Solutions saying thank you to the Sekhukhune community by hosting a Community Golf Day at the Tubatse Chrome Club in Steelpoort near Burgersfort. Thorburn Holdings Executive Director and shareholder, Thabang Moropa, also participated in the day and played his round of golf whilst the Thorburn Steelpoort based management team all supported with arrangements. Executive Mayor for Sekhukhune, Mogobo David Magabe, attended the lunch after the golf.

This was also an opportunity for Golf Caddies at the Tubatse Chrome Club to show their skills on the other side of the game – by playing. Thorburn once again equipped the four Tubatse Chrome Club Caddies with clothing. Teams from local schools, mines and a community team also participated whilst a ladies and Tubatse Club team was also entered.

Caddies who worked on the golf day were spoilt by Thorburn with a food parcel, cap and t-shirt to say thank you for what they do at the Club and for players. It happens that on some days they have to walk long distances to the Club only to find that players might not be playing or that there are too many caddies versus players. The Thorburn idea of a caddie academy is more and more becoming a reality.

The day was not about winning which was reflected by the prize giving which changed the format from the past – the first three winning teams received ordinary prizes, but amongst others were two ice machines, two microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners, fans, cooler bags etc handed out to players through a lucky draw event. The overall winner was a team from the Steelpoort Academy lead by headmaster, Mr Alberts.

A second Thorburn pull or push cart was also delivered in the Sekhukhune Area and will be handed to a worthy individual in the community. The cart can be used to transport water cans, can be used to transport goods in general or used as a general purpose cart for entrepreneurs selling goods for example next to a road. The Thorburn idea with the cart project is to train a local in manufacturing the carts, design multipurpose and different carts and to encourage business to buy these carts from the local entrepreneur and then to distribute amongst communities.

Once again an enjoyable day with the Sekhukhune community, clients and business associates.
