Thorburn “Ice-Breaker” Winter Warmer Project 2015

The first of four Thorburn “Ice-Breaker” Projects (a Thorburn “winter warmer” initiative) kicked off at Dingleton on 4 June, just as a major cold front hit the Northern Cape.  Dingleton is a small town close to Kathu where the residents are in a process of resettling to Kathu.  This is part of a Kumba Iron Ore (Sishen Mine) resettlement project to allow for an expansion of mining activities in what is currently Dingleton town.  In return, residents are resettled in Kathu with new and improved housing facilities.

The Dingleton Networking Project is a NGO under the Chair of Pastor Forward Olifant and Project leader Isabella Roberts.  They care for a variety of residents ranging from more than 80 elders, at least 30 school children from adjacent farms and 30 toddlers in a crèche facility.  Thorburn donated 100 much-needed blankets and 200 soup sachets to this worthy cause and committed that the local Thorburn Kathu Office will from time to time, provide support with essential food donations.

Attending the handover ceremony were, amongst others, Pastor Olifant, Eldine Adams (Industrial Relations Coordinator in Dingleton), Isabella Roberts (Project Leader), Kingsley Lesesa (Thorburn Security manager overseeing the Dingleton Project), Thorburn Regional Manager Wilhelm Pieterse and Thorburn MD Dolf Scheepers .

Two Kathu High School scholars who reside in Dingleton will participate in a golf tournament at Sun City in July 2015.  Thorburn will sponsor these two promising young golfers in a commitment made to the Kathu High School.
