Local Sekhukhune Females Benefit from Local Business Support

Lehlabula Cleaning and Construction from Eerstegeluk and Makola’s Car Wash from Magimeng Village in the Steelpoort Area in Sekhukhune recently benefitted from local business support. Female entrepreneurs Catherine Lekwadi from Makola’s Car Wash and Fast Maimela from Lehlabula Cleaning and Construction both use Thorburn Security Solutions donated carts or also called “Thorburn karretjies” for their work environments.

Lehlabula Cleaning and Construction is a female owned business owned by Fast Maimela. It was established in August 2012 when her business potential was identified by Tubatse Chrome Plant and Lehlabula Cleaning was contracted to provide cleaning and gardening services at the Tubatse Chrome Plant with the added responsibility of cleaning the main road between Tubatse Chrome Village and the Plant. She uses her cart to transport equipment and refuse bags in the Tubatse Plant and also along the main road. Lehlabula Cleaning forms an integral part of the Tubatse Chrome Plant’s day to day operational function. Thorburn Security Solutions believes that their contribution would add to her business’s productivity, professionalism and development.

Makola’s Car Wash is a newly established business owned by Catherine Lekwadi. It is on the route between Eastern Chrome Mines (ECM) Doornbosch Mine and the Ribacross junction in the Magimeng Village. She uses her cart to transport her washing machines, buckets and accessories to the washing bays. Makola’s Car Wash also received signage, t-shirts for employees and a braai facility for customers from Thorburn Security Solutions as an enterprise development project: a lot of support would be required in future to get this business of the ground. The cart was donated to Kgoshi Petrus Maroga in September 2012 for redistribution in his community.

The Thorburn “karretjies” will become a local brand in Steelpoort and envisaged to be rolled out in adjacent areas as far afield as Phalabora and Middelburg coal fields. In a joint effort between Tubatse Chrome Plant and Thorburn Security Solutions, a local entrepreneur will be trained to manufacture these carts locally and a sales and marketing drive will support his efforts. Local businesses are encouraged to support this project.
