Thorburn’s JV Partner Reaches out to children in need
Gagu JB Security, a joint venture partner of Thorburn Security Solutions at the Nkomati Mine in Mpumalanga, generously conducted a local SED initiative in May 2014 by reaching out to children in need. Happiness Sigudla, owner of Gagu JB Security, saw the need of ten disadvantaged children at Elamagadlela Primary School and provided them with new school uniforms. Food parcels and cold drinks were also donated to the learners. Previously Happiness Sigudla has also contributed to children in need of school shoes, and last winter the Joint Venture, Thorburn Gagu JB Services, provided blankets to community members at Vaalbank near Nkomati Mine as part of the 2013 Thorburn Ice Breaker project.
This donation is in line with the commitment that Gagu JB Security has in terms of the joint venture with Thorburn Security Solutions – it is all about ploughing back to the community, especially in the greater Elukwatini from where gagu JB Security conducts business. Upon being congratulated on the project Happiness responded by saying that she had taken a leaf out of MD, Dolf Scheepers’ book. This project is a clear indication that there is a commitment from Happiness Sigudla and Gagu JB Security to actively get involved in also serving the community, underpinned by ploughing best practices that developed through the joint venture, back into the community.
Earlier in May 2014 Thorburn offered extensive management training to Gagu JB Security through Unigrad Training College, when Operations Manager, Lucky Masilela attended a Management Development Course with Thorburn managers in Steelpoort in Mpumalanga. In 2013 he attended an Internal Audit training session and is actively involved with client meetings and on-site training at Nkomati Mine.
Gagu JB Security, through Happiness Sigudla, holds 40% shareholding in Thorburn Gagu JB Services.
